SCPA Website Photoshoot: K-Arts/Photo Studio

These are the final images that I chose. I've learned that having different levels within the photograph makes the photo a lot more interesting most of the time and leads to a very good asymmetrical picture. I decided to use the black platforms from the little theatre as my set, because they were small enough to have multiple platforms in the photo, they were easy to level differently, and they looked like they would be the type of floor a dancer would perform on.

I used a softbox and a hood light for these pictures so that I could have a bit of harder lighting from one side, but still have the other side lit. In one of the pictures, I decided not to use the softbox and just use the hood because I wanted hard shadows to help convey the emotion better. For the first two pictures, I decided to keep the studio within the photo because I wanted the viewer to feel like they were really on the set of the photoshoot, rather than knowing the emotions of the dancers.

Within the first two pictures, I am trying to communicate the feeling that someone would have while being on a photoshoot. In the third picture, I decided to convey the emotion of what some people percieve as love, but also include stress, and uncomfortability. The fourth picture is my favorite and it's representing a girl getting ready for their dance, but behind her exterior, she is very lonely and feels that there is no one around to help comfort her. She needs to find her own comfort and expression so she does it through dance.

Honestly I am very proud of these four photos, the first two were the pictures I set out to do, inspired by Annie Lebovitz, and the second two were just experimental shots that turned out very well. I enjoy looking at these photos and I believe that they are very good quality, visually, and technically.
